New discoveries about Marbella area...
I had to go in January for some days to Marbella ... and I had some time to continue exploring the area. It was nice to walk in the sun and to seat in sunny terraces in the middle of January. And I have two discoveries to share with you in this blog post.
Marbella in January
I had to go to Marbella for administrative reasons. It is necessary now for rental apartments to have them registered as tourist accommodation, and for that some conditions must be met (have an occupancy license, rooms with direct ventilation to the exterior, air-conditioning, heat, cleaning, furniture, …). The goal is to ensure that guests get what is expected in terms of requirements and, as you can image, this is the case for our apartment in La Finca.
I had also some time to continue exploring the area … It was nice to walk in the sun and to seat in sunny terraces in the middle of January. And I have two discoveries to share with you in this blog post:
Archaeological Route –Villa Romana de Río Verde
It was by chance while enjoying a lovely walk by the seaside that I saw the signs to “Villa Romana de
Rio Verde”. These are the remains of a late 1st century AD Roman villa. Sadly all that is left is the
floor and a small portion of the walls of the villa. However, it seems that it is a floor unlike any other
with black and white mosaic tiles in patterns never seen before in a Roman Villa. These mosaics are
certainly worth a visit.
The Rio Verde site is situated to the west of Marbella about one km from Puerto Banus, next to the
Río Verde and a short walk from Playa Rio Verde. The remains are preserved by a surrounding fence, and are now open to visitors between 10.30 and 13.30 on Friday Saturday and Sunday. You can also see the remains visible through the iron fence at any daylight time as I did, thought the mosaics are more difficult to appreciate.
I looked for some more information and there are substantial numbers of Roman, Arabic and
Christian remains which have been well preserved and encourage exploration.

Annual hiking event in Marbella
Four day hiking are organized for routes of 20 and 30 km through the city, the nature and along the
beach. You can participate in all four days but it is also possible to choose the days that are more
convenient for you.
For 2017 the dates are 12, 13, 14 and 15 October when the weather conditions are perfect for it, not
too hot, not too cold.
It sounds like a good excuse to take some days off and charge batteries for winter time. Why not
taking advantage?
Book your stay at our apartment in La Finca for October and you will get a 15% discount on the price indicated in our website.
